Confab on Being a Better Regulator

Regulation is hard

Regulation is hard. You are responsible for managing risk, but you need to do that in environments where stakeholders are also pushing their own agendas. You report to Ministers, but at the same time stakeholders can go around you and directly lobby your Minister. You need to be evidence-based but sometimes the evidence is not definitive. The way that risks play out in the media may not represent the relative risk of that issue in comparison to others that are receiving less media coverage.

What’s a confab?

Parker Duignan Consulting's Confabs are informal meetings run under Chatham House Rules. People come together who are involved in a sector/cross-sector issue and discuss how they can work better in their roles. There is no particlar outcome of a Confab than to improve practice through people involved in an area of work having a discussion about it.

Facilitator

This meeting will be facilitated by Dr Paul Duignan. He is a public sector strategy and outcomes specialist who has extensive experience of government processes including independent chairing and facilitation of regulator-consultation processes.
